Lego Lesson at Donatien's village
We headed down to the village at around 7:00am to show Donatien how to use the Lego. I was a bit unsure of how this was going to go but after a bit of a shaky start he started picking it up very quickly.

I didn't know how the Lego was going to be received. I brought it to encourage creativity and engineering. It requires some discipline and patients to build the various structures and buildings and it's not easy but I think that is essential, they need to be challenged mentally.

Lego Lesson with Donatien

Saying goodbye to Donatien

We said our goodbyes and headed off back to Bujumbura. It's about a 3 hour drive from where we were, around 160 km. As you drive back through the mountains the geology changes again with the hills and valleys becoming much steeper

After getting back to Bujumbura I was kindly asked to dinner with Emime (Action Aid Country Director) and the Head Office Team after what was the most incredible week. They thanked me for my trip with some kind words which meant so much to me. Lovely people and of course, I thanked them too.

We discussed how we could change the international view of Burundi, to show that it is a safe place to visit. Getting rid of the 'Do Not Travel' warnings on the Foreign Office website would be a start... Look - people need to apply caution when travelling to any foreign country but the country described on our Foreign Office site is not the beautiful little green country that I have just experienced.
